The following is a list of LMS courses that should offer 1+ CNE units and their course descriptions.

An introduction to health care in the jail environment. This course includes an overview of ethics and constitutional considerations involved in responding to the medical requests of incarcerated persons.

This course emphasizes the partnership between medical and security staff in the jail environment, outlining core values and guiding principles of the correctional nursing practice.

This course covers the basic concept of evaluating an individual’s fitness for confinement with increased emphasis on the partnership between medical and security staff in the jail.

An introduction to the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and the med pass process. Emphasis is placed on how to read and fill out the MAR.

This course is designed to give nurses an understanding of medication diversion in the jail environment. Nurses will be able to define medication diversion, identify the signs of medication diversion in staff and patients, and complete inventory counting procedures.

This course provides an overview of how to respond to patient medical complaints in the jail environment by communicating with the appropriate staff members and documenting in the appropriate site forms.

This course outlines the detox and withdrawal processes in jail, including symptom identification, screening processes, and the partnership between security and medical staff when treating patients experiencing detox and withdrawal.

This course gives an overview of the causes and symptoms of delirium and how to respond appropriately in a jail environment. It is stressed that delirium is a medical emergency. Emphasis is placed on identifying delirium and continuing BLS until emergency medical services arrive.

This course provides a broad understanding of man down situations and the role of custody and medical staff during a man down crisis. Emphasis is placed on reviewing site-specific man down policies, procedures, and equipment.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the Ask Suicide Screening Questions (ASQ) tool designed for correctional facilities. Emphasis is placed on identifying signs to screen for suicide, frequency of screening, and when to alert the mental health practitioner.

This course provides nurses with stress-management strategies and explores how stress affects the body and mind.

This course provides an overview of bloodborne pathogens: how pathogens spread, personal protective equipment (PPE), and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne pathogens.

This course focuses on the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) in the jail environment, PREA considerations for incarcerated patients, and PREA procedures.

This course places continued emphasis on the partnership between security and medical staff, outlining how to review Officer Communication Forms to address patient health concerns.

An introduction to pregnancy care in the jail environment. This course reviews special circumstances, partnerships with custody and mental health, and off-site appointments.
